On August 27, 2009 DotNetNuke Corporation purchased www.snowcovered.com which is the leading retail site for DotNetNuke (DNN) related products. It has been a major source of competition for DotNetNuke Corporation's own Marketplace for many years. You can read the official press release (click here).
As developers we always keep a close eye on what's available as off-the-shelf products that can save our clients time and money. To that end, www.snowcovered.com has been an invaluable resource to us for many years. The big question on everyone's mind is what effect will this have on the DNN community and what will change?
To DotNetNuke Corporation's credit they are taking it slow and do not want to rock the boat too much. Snowcovered.com will be business as usual and DotNetNuke Corp. will be phasing out their own Marketplace over the next few months. This gives developers time to setup Snowcovered accounts if they haven't already.
Additionally, I think this is a good move for DotNetNuke financially and for the DNN community at large. This move should ultimately provide resources for snowcovered.com to grow and improve its services with the backing of DotNetNuke Corp. It allows developers and clients alike one professional source for their DNN needs saving time and effort.
